Carrie LeBaron Taken By Death
Miss Carrie C. LeBaron, a resident of Clarkston since 1925 and a retired Idaho school teacher, died at 5:30 yesterday morning at the Riverview Rest Home, where she had been a patient for 18 months. Miss LeBaron would have been 84 Saturday.
She began her career as a teacher in Kansas in 1896, serving as an assistant teacher for $20 a month. She retired in 1920 after teaching in Colorado and at Juliaetta, Leland and Orofino.
Miss LeBaron was born April 28, 1878, at Tecumseh, Kans., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marshall LeBaron. After her initial teaching experience at the age of 18 she attended Kansas State Normal School for a year to better qualify herself as a teacher. At that time any person over the age of 16 who could pass a state examination could become a teacher.

After teaching in Kansas and Colorado she followed her parents to Idaho in 1905 where she received a salary of $45 a month. Her parents farmed near Cavendish. After teaching for several years, Miss LeBaron left the profession to care for her aging parents. They moved from the Cavendish farm to Clarkston in 1925.
Miss LeBaron is survived by two sisters, Mrs. E. A. Armstrong, Lapwai, and Mrs. Reed Klapp, Spokane, and two brothers, F. H. LeBaron, Cavendish, and W. S. LeBaron, Denver, Colo.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 tomorrow morning at the Merchant Chapel, with the Rev. Peter Stretch of the Lewiston Church of the Nativity as officiant. Burial will be at the Cavendish Cemetery at 2 p.m. The Clarkston Eastern Star will meet at the chapel at 10 tomorrow morning.
